I opened an account for my brother. He paid for years, and we no longer speak.

In mid December I started getting calls from this company demanding money over the phone. Say I owe $1,500 approx. I just got home from having 3/4 of my spine fused with rods and hardware, second time, first failed and rods broke, I was suffering...Phone calls kept coming, day, night, weekends....Blocked over 20 phone numbers..Several numbers, any time of day, night, multi times per day. LONG STORY SHORT, I asked for a document showing that the debt was owed, was told one was going to be sent, did verify MY NAME ADDRESS, all was correct and agreed on a monthly payment.

Pressured to pay OVER THE PHONE, or direct from my bank account. I NEVER got anything but unlimited phone calls. A few people were nice, helpful, said would send a 2nd copy of letter they say they sent. TODAY, we were woke up 8 am on a Saturday, me still in recovery from major spinal surgery, had a bad migraine all night, just was getting relief.

This person twisted every word I said. My spouse was laying next to me, as we were sleeping...and was so angry..The way I was spoke to by this Ashley, was like I was not speaking a word of truth...She said I DID get the letter from them and must have threw it away, it looks like "junk mail" again, I said NO. I am looking for letter I have good credit and wish to keep it..finally I hung up..I tried to get her to listen, I spoke with a man at this place last week, and another lady, that my brother DID agree to call them and offer a settlement, and I GAVE permission for them to deal with him, as HE WAS MAKING THE PAYMENT...She said that was untrue !!! I got so sick of being treated like I was I hung up.

I called back and spoke to Tiffany, she was very nice told me of the website, and said they are a legit business of 20 years. I still refused to pay over the phone with no letter from them.

I offered my email, my fax, and she said they do not do either..I still am waiting for a letter..requested 11 days ago. Now I am here checking out the website, and seen this Pissed Consumer place...WHO PAYS ANYONE OVER THE PHONE, with no proof of debt !

I used to work for a debt defense lawyer who did about 15-30 of these cases a month; PRA is a nasty, nasty debt collector. If I were you I would start keeping notes on everything you do/they do- phone calls, letters, dates, times, the name of the people you talk to, etc.

because if it does go to court you could actually get some money depending on if they have violated the FDCPA. Collectors are not allowed to call before 8AM or after 9PM. Also, send a certified letter to them asking for validation of the debt and disputing it. A lot of times they try to collect on debts that are past the statute of limitations.

Definitely do your research and investigate before you fork over any money. The proof of burden is on them to prove your brother owes the debt, not on him to prove he doesn't.

The original creditor sold the debt, sometimes it can be resold 4 or 5 times over the course of a couple years. Definitely look into it.

Why do you listen to their phone calls when you know that they are required to send you proof of the debt by US Mail? Get an answering machine and record their calls.
