Portfolio Recovery Associates - Calls for debt I don't own
For two years now, PRA has been calling me and sending letters saying I owe a debt on a store credit card. The first time I talked to someone on the phone, she screamed at me, threatened me with a lawsuit, and said she didn't need to provide any proof and could sue me if I didn't pay on the phone right then.
I refused to pay, insisted on written proof, and hung up. The first letter they sent had a printout of their computer screen that just had the credit card name, my name, and a balance, reduced to 1/4th of the letter-size page so parts of it were unreadable. I checked with the store, and they said my card had no balance and the account was closed due to inactivity and could be reopened. The store sent me a letter confirming that, at my request.
I sent a letter demanding proof of this account to PRA and a list of questions about details of the account (such as the account number), and a copy of the store's letter, along with a request that if they could not provide proof, to stop calling.
They sent back the same 1/4th size computer screen printout with no details or responses. Then they continued to call. And call. And call.
I have blocked them but it doesn't seem to stop them from calling.
No more letters, just multiple calls a week. In some of the messages, they threaten lawsuits.
Reason of review: Poor customer service.
